Dr Thobekile Qabhobo, Mr Luzuko Tekeni and Ms Jasmine Kinsman were informed of their successful applications last week.
The annual closed call is sent out by the NRF to all DVC’s of Research at the various HEI’s, to nominate eligible staff to apply for this funding. The funding awarded by NRF allows for the applicant to go on sabbatical leave to complete his/her PhD studies or do postdoctoral research. The award includes funds for the Faculty/Department to appoint a replacement lecturer for the period that the beneficiary is on sabbatical as well as running expenses for the actual research costs of the project. Beneficiaries are awarded 1-3 years of funding.
Dr Thobekile Qabhobo (left), from the Department of Economics in the Faculty of BES, was awarded the grant under the postdoctoral track and will focus on “Exchange rate regimes and Economic Integration in the cases of SADC and BRICS group of countries” for his research project; Luzuko Tekeni from the Department of Information Technology in the Faculty of EBET, was awarded the grant under the doctoral track and will focus on “Modelling the Factors that Influence Home Users' Intention to Secure their Home Networks” for his research project and Jasmine Kinsman from the Department of Business Management in the Faculty of BES, was also awarded the grant under the doctoral track and will focus on “A reconceptualised perspective of the six-step financial planning process in South Africa” for her research project.
There are currently eight beneficiaries on this programme at our University. Two awards were granted in 2018, three in 2019 and three in 2020.
