The Economic Society of South Africa is a significant society within the field of Economics, with council members from academic, industry and government. The Society is tasked with leading and promoting the discussion of both theoretical and applied economic issues.

The Society also publishes the prestigious journal: The South African Journal of Economics.

In addition, the Society runs key events, such as the PhD Conference annually and Conference biennially.

The next edition of the Society’s biennial conference will be co-hosted by Nelson Mandela University and Rhodes at the Nelson Mandela Business School facilities in September 2027, the first after its centenary conference in 2025.

In promoting the study of Economics, the society also runs a number of prizes and awards.

Prof Mishi's primary research areas are at the intersection of behavioural & experimental economics (BEE) and sustainability. He currently serves as Acting Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences.
