Professor Charles Wait

Prof Charles Wait is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics. He is often requested by the media to comment on South African economic issues, particularly at budget time. Once a year he contributes the Economic Review column to the publication by the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber. Prof Wait’s academic career spans a period of 46 years. He has taught Economics at universities in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Poland, and Germany; as well as supervised several doctoral and master’s research students. He has published in highly accredited journals, co-authored books and presented at conferences. At the Nelson Mandela University, between 1996 to 2000, Prof Wait was the Dean of the (then) Faculty of Economic Sciences and Building Disciplines and member of the University Council, also provost Vice-Chancellor. Over the years he has also been a member of selected panels and committees within and outside the university.
